LGUs to conduct DRRM summit this year

Talosig said the summit aims to build a comprehensive and common understanding of the local officials, council members and frontline individuals their roles and responsibilities for an effective and efficient delivery of government services in line with disaster risk reduction and management.

“Our specific objectives here are to identify and highlight the roles of chief executives and the council members on DRRM and to give input to the local officials the tools and protocols in planning as well as to affirm their commitment on DRRM,” Talosig said. 

Based on the schedules sent to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), Batanes will be the very first to stage its summit which will be done next month, February. Following it is the province of Isabela which is set on March, followed by Cagayan on April, Nueva Vizcaya on May and Quirino on June.

The activities, Talosig stressed, will be counterparting between the LGUs and the OCD to ensure success of the summit.

She further stated that summit will serve as avenue to thresh out issues and concerns of the LGUs and other stakeholders on disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and rehabilitation and the issues on the implementation of the DRRM law. (OTB-PIA2/Cagayan)
